Here’s our top five ways to earn your top hostess badge!

  1. Feed the masses!

Get creative with how you feed your guests. Platters of fresh produce, salad, wraps and pulled pork, voila, you're all set for a Mexican style feast.

Also, there are no hard and fast rules saying you have to cook - food trucks are great value and the quality and variety is incredible. You can get everything from homemade ice cream through to gourmet burgers and tacos. If your guests are into wild food there are trucks who will smoke, roast or rotisserie your game for you.

There's also no rule against serving food that someone else has prepared. Serving takeaways is a great way to feed large groups at casual parties, “think platters of sushi, Thai and of course large bowls of home-style cut fries served with lemon and aioli - easy!

Let's not forget dessert. Lots of little cakes are a great option for sharing and getting to try different flavours.

2. Entertainment and Music

Live music is a great way to keep guests entertained and dancing - know someone who plays the guitar or is handy on a turntable, ask them if they'll do a set for you.

Play games - games come in all shapes and sizes and range from outdoor lawn bowls and croquet through to mini golf.  Keeping your guests busy is a huge part of making your party fun and memorable.

3. Styling

Dressing up your party doesn't need to break the bank. If you're into being different, op-shops are a great place to get one-of-a-kind dinner sets, vintage salt and pepper shakers, cushions and glassware.

Likewise, flowers and greenery are an easy way to create a modern vibe - and you can totally do this yourself!

4) Don't forget the Kids

If you are opting to have kids at your party, make sure you have a contingency plan for them. Providing an activity for the kids might give their parents a much-needed break. Colouring books, activity baskets or even a designated kid area are all great options.

5) Relax and Enjoy Yourself

Nobody wants an absentee host! Instead, be the party giver that plans ahead so you can actually spend time with your guests. Set the trestles with drinks before your guests arrive and aim to prep food so it's ready to go so, all you have to do then is put on a record, pour a Rose and toast to the holiday season!
