The Farmshed Makeover!
Grand Designs” has nothing on these two! Marisse and Doug get top marks for the “best venue makeover” EVER with Marisse’s parents farm shed being transformed into an elegant bohemian reception space for family and friends.
A must see for those who are up for some achievable DIY.
Together for twelve years, Marisse and Doug’s love story started with some good old-fashioned flirting on the dance floor. A few weeks of exchanging texts on their Nokia 2280s, two formals later and some years of growing and maturing in between, the love story developed into a good novel to read, made up of exciting chapters along the way.
When it came to the venue, Marisse’s family farm in beautiful Blackhead, Dunedin was the location for both the ceremony and reception. A shed on Marisse’s parents' farm was used for the reception for 80 guests. The day, captured by the talented Sinead Jenkins of Sinead Jenkins Photography will leave you in awe of this stunning transformation!
One of the biggest challenges for this cute duo was trying to achieve their vision of a rustic and bohemian space for their guests working within the limits of a farm shed.
To help achieve their vision Marisse and Doug hired our handcrafted wooden trestles and replica Bruno Pollock chairs for the reception. A number of floor plan options were worked through with Marisse to identify the best layout for the unique venue before settling on single trestles to maximise the length the space offered.
For Marisse and Doug the “amazing wooden tables and chairs” fitted with exactly what they had imagined making the reception look stylish.
When asked, Marisse’s advice for other couples planning their wedding - "plan ahead to minimise stress in the weeks leading up.
And remember, the people are there to celebrate your love and are ultimately excited to share that with you, the rest is an additional bonus!"
We love working in unique spaces and venues as these often result in the most spectacular outcomes!
If you’re considering working in a unique venue or like Marisse and Doug, converting a pre-existing building we'd love to have a chat.
Marisse was our first Swell Event Hire bride and for this reason we will adore her forever.
Thank you Marisse and Doug for allowing Swell Hire to be part of your day. We loved every minute of it!
